Doors at 5:30 pm, Show at 6:00pm, Amsterdam Bar and Hall, St. Paul
Dr. James Bradeen
Guest: Dr. James Bradeen, Professor & Department Head University of Minnesota Department of Plant Pathology
It’s summer, a time for planting and growing. But these days, many of the plants on farm fields and even in backyard gardens come from nearly identical genetic strains. The lack of genetic diversity in our crops should be a concern to anyone who eats food, according to our guest, Dr. James Bradeen of the UofM Department of Plant Pathology. We’ll talk to him about how cultivating wild plants and investing in gene banks can help protect food systems from disease, insects and the effects of climate change. What is the show?
Described “As if C-SPAN were suddenly swarmed by the cast of SNL,” The Theater of Public Policy has garnered national media attention and fans for its unique blend of serious issues and improv comedy.
Shows open with a lively conversation with a newsmaker or policy wonk.
That conversation inspires a team of Minnesota’s most sharpest improvisers, who create entirely spontaneous sketches based on the interview.
The expert guest(s) then answers questions from the audience.
The show wraps with one last round of improv from the cast.
