Like many working for racial and social justice, Hip Hop artist turned activist Maj Toure advocates for more education of urban communities, deescalation police training, and dismantling systemic racism.
Unlike many of his peers, he also believes part of the solution is for more people of color to understand and take advantage of their 2nd Amendment rights and be trained in gun safety.
The North Philadelphia native is coming to the Twin Cities and will be our guest on The Theater of Public Policy for a special, one-time show Thursday, June 22.
We'll ask Maj about his activism. What kind of a reception he has gotten from the more traditional gun rights communities? And whether he thinks trying to do an improv comedy show about race and guns would be a terrible decision...
What is the show?
The Theater of Public Policy uses improv comedy to unpack and re-imagine hard, “thinky” issues. A live, on-stage interview with an expert, thought-leader, or panel of thinkers serves as inspiration for the T2P2 cast's entirely unscripted theatrical interpretation. The performers use comedy to look at old debates in new ways, shed light on complex policy discussions, and make civics civil again.
