Position: Production/Grant Writing Intern

Reports to: CEO

Classification: 8 hours /week, 3 month contract

Compensation: $200/month stipend 

About The Organization:

Danger Boat Productions LLC dreams and engineers creative, entertaining, and engaging shows like The Theater of Public Policy (T2P2). The organization specializes in events and productions that get people laughing and thinking about big ideas and issues. Founded in 2011, the company has produced more than 50 live events, mostly in Minnesota, including four seasons of The Theater of Public Policy. The organization has worked with a diverse and wide range of nonprofit and corporate clients, including The Mayo Clinic, The Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, Paper Darts Magazine, Twin Cities Public Television Open Air, and MPR’s The Current.

Position Overview:

Danger Boat Productions seeks a self-starting individual looking for direct experience in every aspect of a small theater and event production company.  The bulk of responsibilities will revolve around grant applications and support for upcoming events. This will require getting to know the project and its various aspects well. Additionally, this individual will work with the CEO and Productions Manager as they reach out to new potential clients and develop events, coordinate and motivate the cast, and follow-up with everyone post event.

By the end of the internship, the individual will have the opportunity to lead production of an event with help from Danger Boat staff. This will be a valuable learning opportunity to see an event through from start to finish. 

Essential Functions

1. Grants/Sponsorship (50%)

Danger Boat Productions is beginning a new push for foundation and corporate support, specifically for T2P2. This position will be responsible for first drafts of many items necessary for these new efforts.

• Learn the history, mission, and goals of T2P2

• Draft language for various grant opportunities

• Compile sponsorship proposals for potential underwriters 

• Track various sponsorship/grant proposal processes

2. Informational Development and Data Collection (30%)

This individual will assist in creating multiple forms of written outreach that are meant to inform and receive data from potential fans and clients.

  • Edit and refine existing promotional materials and internal documents
  • Develop infrastructure for post-event audience surveys
  • Help communicate to cast event parameters and expectations

3. Execute Event (20%)

As noted above, the intern will have an opportunity to coordinate and execute a Danger Boat event from start to finish with staff support.

• Work with CEO and Productions Manager to determine appropriate show opportunity  

• Work with Productions Coordinator to schedule venue, cast, and rehearsals 

• Lead on marketing, promotion, and follow-through of event

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

• Self-starter, able to get things done without constant oversight

• Attention to detail
• Ability to represent the organization professionally to diverse audiences

• Experience writing in multiple formats

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Desired

• Experience with long-term logistical planning

• Understanding of theater or specifically improvisational theater

• Familiarity with the grant procedures

• Computer experience

• Ability to work from home or telecommute

• Access to reliable transportation
